Our Own Little World

As we get older, we have a little less interaction due to retirement, physical conditions and other preferences, like preferring our own company. During these self imposed retreats, we get to think about what was good in the past and what we still want to get accomplished or experiences we still want to have in life.
The other day I was having a physical setback and was somewhat frustrated about the limitations of this condition I have been experiencing. Retreat seemed a good solution rather then talking about it as it has had be somewhat obsessed with coping with the condition. It involves trying to stem the extent of pain in my head.
The good thing about life is that it presents to us many diversions from thinking about self. Self absorption is not a good emotionally healthy habit. Listening to others as I get to do several days a week as a therapist, and having friends and family who call or come over also are tools for staying off the self pity street.
Another avenue to explore is the gratitude train where we get to look out from the limits of our train ride and envision all the wonders of the world, the good people are doing, the enrichment friendships bring, and the natural wonders of the world. Sometimes I just like to see baby videos. As a long time mother and active grandmother, that pastime is so heartwarming. Music, movies, my own writing are other tools for staying in the positive street.
Our own little worlds aren't so bad. Thinking and thanking can do wonders for our internal spirit.
