Stuck

Ever feel you can't get out of the rut you are in? Keep doing the same thing over and over and really not wanting to continue this way? For sure, many of us get into that rut of feeling stuck I had my computer keep freezing during zoom sessions and complained and did nothing about it until I finally couldn't take it anymore. When the repairman came, he ended up rewiring the whole house. Turns out our friendly neighborhood squirrel had eaten its way through the cable. The repairman commented that he was surprised I was getting any reception at all.

Another stuck habit is asking someone if they are worried. They invariably answer no, but later admit they are hyper most of the time due to anxiety. They don't connect the word anxiety to worry. Also, ask someone if they are angry. They will 99% of the time respond with a no. So why would I continue to ask a dead-end question like that? Duh. Real change happens when I stop myself and let the other person volunteer their thoughts rather than try to guide them in a certain direction. People have to decide, want to admit, and change. The rut in thinking is to continue to believe we can affect change in others by pointing out their mistakes or flaws. Not even when I confront myself, after I have pointed out my own flaws, do I immediately get unstuck by changing the behavior. Practicing doing the wanted behavior over and over again gives me courage to stay in that lane. Works.
